Podcast Ombudsman Report for Blueshirt Bandwidth Ep. 90

Eric can't pronounce Roberto's last name, forgot four Trashers Hall of Famers, and the Panarin-Tkachuk trade comparison doesn't hold up. The Ombudsman corrects the record on Ep. 90.

Welcome back to the Blueshirt Bandwidth Podcast Ombudsman Report. Each week, Charlie Vidal will listen to the latest episode of the podcast and correct the record on anything Joe and Eric get wrong. If you aren't already, you can listen and subscribe to the podcast here.

Joe Missing the Podcast

During the introduction to the podcast, Chip wondered if Joe misses the podcast and likes Eric. As a long time “friend” of Eric’s, I can say that nobody likes Eric.

Atlanta Thrashers in the Hall of Fame

During a discussion of hockey markets across the country, Eric said that, “I think that the Atlanta Thrashers need to be represented in the Hall of Fame.”

Eric is forgetting numerous Thrashers legends who went on to the Hockey Hall of Fame, including Chris Chelios:

Mark Recchi:

Marian Hossa:

And Keith Tkachuk:

Brady Tkachuk Trade

Ryan Mead was gracious enough to join us from the “Number One Rangers Podcast” (Mark Messier’s words, not mine). He has been a vocal critic of the return that the Rangers received for Artemi Panarin (more on that later), and contrasted it with the three first-round draft picks that the Ottawa Senators just received from the Florida Panthers in exchange for Brady Tkachuk. Ryan said that Senators absolutely needed to trade Tkachuk in a manner similar to how the Rangers needed to trade Panarin. The difference is that Tkachuk was under contract with the Senators for two more seasons. Even without the possibility of a contract extension on the table, the Senators could have kept Tkachuk for two more playoff runs. The Senators just made the playoffs this past season, and probably expect to at least contend for a playoff spot next season.

By the time the New York Rangers traded Artemi Panarin on Feb. 4, they were well out playoff contention, and therefore without an extension Panarin would not have played in another meaningful game for the Rangers.

I’m not sure if Ryan is confused about NHL contracts due to how rarely this has actually happened, but the CBA does allow a star player to play out his contract and then become an unrestricted free agent.

Panarin Trade Return

While discussing Drury’s handling of the Panarin trade, Ryan commented on the return by saying that, “if Drury was Bill Zito, then he would’ve gotten a first.” Reporting has suggested that Drury chose Greentree over the late first round pick of a playoff team.

Roberto’s Name Pronunciation

Eric continued his run of being unable to pronounce words with his butchering of the name of Banter contributor Roberto Solis-Byxbee. Roberto was kind enough to join Eric and Chip on the podcast, so I can only imagine his horror when Eric pronounced his last name  “So-licks bikes-bee.” Roberto’s last name is pronounced “So-Lease Bicks-Bee.”

Brady Tkachuk

Chip pointed out that Brady Tkachuk looks like Sloth from The Goonies. I have never seen The Goonies, so I’ll just share pictures of each of them:

Simon Nemec vs. Adam Fox

Apparently some Rangers fans have told Chip that they would rather have Simon Nemec than Adam Fox.

Here is how HockeyStats.com compares them:
