Let’s turn our attention to a few key details about the announced schedule and take a look at how next season will kick off for the Blueshirts.
- The World Cup is clearly having an impact on the start of the NHL season.
- The Rangers will play nine regular season games in October, six of which are home games.
- The home opener coinciding with the beginning of the season is happening for the first time since 2007-08.
- The season begins at home against the Islanders and ends at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
- The Rangers will twice have four game road trips, one in November and one in March.
- In March and April the Rangers will play 12 games on the road in their final 19 games of the regular season.
- The Rangers will play 30 games against Metropolitan Division teams. They will face CBJ and PIT five times each and all other Metropolitan teams four times each./
16 back to backs for NYR is pretty high compared to last few years, IIRC.

At first blush it’s hard to take much away from the announcement of next season’s schedule. Playing in 16 back-to-backs seems... far from ideal and having the home stretch of the season played mostly in the road whites also could be a problem.
It appears that the Rangers would do well to have a strong start to the season like they did in 2015-16, because the schedule in late March and April looks absolutely brutal on paper.
