Rangers News: Corey Potter Recalled

Rather strange news being reported by Jim Cerny of the Rangers Official Website on twitter this evening. Apparently the Rangers have recalled Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) defensemen Corey Potter. No other NHL defensemen has been sent down in exchange, which leaves Potter as an extra on the Rangers blueline at the moment. In 43 games played this season with the Pack, Potter has registered two goals and ten assists with 44 penalty minutes.

Now, we are aware that GM Glen Sather has been kicking some tires on shaking things up with the trade that ended Ales Kotalik's and Chris Higgins' tenures with the Rangers last week. That being said, this may have something to do with a trade that Sather has lined up for the near future. The Blueshirts do not normally make moves like this just to add a seventh defensemen to the lineup. It just doesn't add up.

Keep in mind that the roster freeze begins when the Olympics do, and then General Managers will only have three days after the games in Vancouver to make any last minute transactions before the trade deadline on March 3rd.
