The New York Rangers injury woes continue as they have officially placed Vincent Trocheck on long-term injured reserve. As a result, he will miss a minimum of 10 games or 24 days, dating back to the first game he missed in Pittsburgh on Oct. 7.

Additionally, Rangers defenseman Will Borgen did not practice today and is dealing with a lower-body injury. It did not appear that Borgen’s game yesterday was in any way affected by an injury, but he is currently being evaluated, leaving him at risk for missing tomorrow night’s outing against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In the event Borgen is unable to play tomorrow, the Rangers have recalled defenseman Scott Morrow to ensure the team has at least seven defensemen.

This is a roster move the Rangers would have been unable to make had Trocheck not been placed on LTIR. By placing him on LTIR, the Rangers open up the necessary cap space to call up Scott Morrow, who could make his Rangers debut tomorrow regardless of the status of Will Borgen, likely replacing Urho Vaakanainen. Vaakanainen has struggled through the start of the season and played only 12:52 against Edmonton, nearly four minutes fewer than the next lowest defenseman in Braden Schneider and about five fewer minutes than Matthew Robertson, only seeing three shifts in the third period.
