Rangers Radar: Georgiev owns the Leafs

It’s time for the latest installment of Rangers Radar

It’s time for another installment of Blueshirt Banter’s Rangers Radar, where we put the spotlight on trends in performance and production and collect notes on players on the New York Rangers and the Hartford Wolf Pack, as well as Rangers prospects playing elsewhere.

New York Rangers

  • Brendan Lemieux has thrown at least one hit and registered one shot on net in 11 of his 13 games as a Ranger. He’s also drawn the second-most amount of penalties at 5v5 among all rookie skaters who have played at least 300 minutes./
  • Goaltender Alexandar Georgiev posted a .956 save percentage and a 2.01 goals against average in his three starts against the Toronto Maple Leafs this season. The Leafs are the only team that Georgiev had three starts against this year.
  • Vinni Lettieri’s goal against the Penguins on March 25 was his second career NHL goal and his first goal with the Rangers in 39 games. Lettieri now has a 3.4 shooting percentage in his NHL career.
  • Rookie Filip Chytil’s secondary assist on Lettieri’s power play goal against the Penguins was his first point in 11 games.
  • Ryan Strome scored more goals (14) in 55 games with the Rangers this year than he scored in 82 games with the Edmonton Oilers last year or in the 69 games he played with the New York Islanders in 2016-17. Strome has three goals and four points in his last four games./
  • Winger Pavel Buchnevich has six points in his last seven games and points in his last five consecutive games.
  • With his two-goal game against the Boston Bruins last night, Mika Zibanejad now has 30 goals this season. His previous single-season career best was the 27 goals he scored last season in 72 games./

Hartford Wolf Pack

  • The Wolf Pack have a 5-5-0 record in March. Four of their five wins this month have come in overtime or the shootout.
  • Steven Fogarty (72nd overall, 2011 Draft) had a two-goal, five SOG game against the Charlotte Checkers on March 24. That two-goal performance broke Fogarty’s 10-game goal scoring drought. He’s scored 19 goals in 58 games this year with the Wolf Pack after scoring nine goals in 63 games last season./
  • Goaltender Adam Huska (184th overall, 2015 Draft) now has an .848 save percentage with the Wolf Pack in 178 minutes of AHL hockey. He’s yet to finish a game with a save percentage north of .900 in three starts.
  • Defenseman Darren Raddysh (undrafted) has not picked up a point in seven-consecutive games. Raddysh has two points in 14 games with the Wolf Pack after having 26 points in 54 games with the Rockford IceHogs.
  • Chris Bigras (32nd overall, 2013 Draft) has now been out of the Wolf Pack’s lineup for 16 games with an injury. Brandon Crawley — who has 15 points in 42 games — leads Hartford’s active defensemen in scoring with John Gilmour in the NHL and Bigras injured./

Other Rangers Prospects

  • Goaltender Chris Nell (undrafted), 24, has posted an .899 save percentage in 35 appearances in the ECHL with the Maine Mariners and the Greenville Swamp Rabbits this year. Nell had an .892 save percentage in 18 games with the Wolf Pack last season.
  • Morgan Barron (174th overall, 2016 Draft) and Cornell University will play Northeastern University in the NCAA Tournament on March 30 at 4:30 p.m. ET. Barron has 33 points in 34 games this season for the Big Red.
  • Defenseman Nils Lundkvist (28th overall, 2018 Draft) played with Luleå’s J20 SuperElit team in the postseason after playing 41 regular season games in the SHL with the senior club. Lundkvist had a goal and three assists in the postseason. /
  • Defenseman Tarmo Reunanen (98th overall, 2016 Draft) has one goal and four assists in his first six postseason games with Lukko in the Liiga. He’s averaging 22:25 TOI/GP and is leading all Liiga blueliners in postseason scoring.
  • On March 24, defenseman Joey Keane (88th overall, 2018 Draft) had a two-assist game the in London Knights’ 5-0 victory over the Windsor Spitfires. He finished the regular season with 39 points in 66 games for the Knights and the Barrie Colts./
