Following the New York Rangers shootout win in Columbus last night, they're right back at it on home ice tonight where they'll play hosts to the Detroit Red Wings. In preparation for that, the team has made a pair of roster moves ahead of it. As expected, with Will Borgen unable to go last night, Scott Morrow joins the team. In a corresponding move, the Rangers have assigned Gabe Perreault to Hartford after a three game stint in the NHL.

Neither of these moves come as much of a surprise. As I pointed out in the recap last night, Morrow was a healthy scratch in Hartford's outing last night, indicating the team was preparing on getting him to New York for tonight's action.

As Joe pointed out in this morning's Game Notes, Perreault continued to see sheltered minutes during the most important parts of the last two games. With that in mind, all signs pointed to him going back to Hartford sooner rather than later and with Morrow joining the team, soon appears to be now.

For as well as Perreault has looked at times, it's clear that when the Rangers don't have a comfortable lead that Mike Sullivan doesn't trust him in the top six lage in games, as he continues to swap him out for Will Cuylle. If that trend continues, it makes more sense for him to get consistent top line minutes in Hartford. Perreault comes out of those three games with his first career point, picking up an assist in the Rangers' first win on home ice this season.

With Morrow joining the team, there's a chance he gets a look in Borgen's place in the event he misses a second game this weekend. With Urho Vaakanainen and Matthew Robertson both being left handed defensemen, it makes sense to give Morrow, a right handed shot, a look in one of their places. In the event he plays, this will be his first official game as a New York Ranger.

Puck drop will come shortly after 7 p.m. tonight as the Rangers will celebrate their centennial for the third time this season. Tonight's theme will be celebrating the Original Six Era.
