Fogarty, 25, has had a somewhat surprising start to the AHL season as he has produced seven goals and seven assists in 19 games. Fogarty is a smart defensive center who disrupts opposing rushes on the forecheck. He also has been Hartford’s best penalty killer. The knock on him has always been skill on the puck and general offensive prowess. At a minimum, the coaching staff will be able to rely on him as a short-term stopgap who will play within the system and follow his assignments on the defensive side of the puck.
Fogarty was drafted by the Rangers in the third round of the 2011 NHL Draft and made his debut with the team in last season’s finale in Philadelphia.
