Rangers Recap: Rangers defeat Senators in shootout, 2-1

P.A. Parenteau found the perfect way to redeem himself for missing a wide open net late in the third period by notching the game-winner for the Rangers in the shootout, giving his team a 2-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators at Scotiabank Place.

Parenteau was summoned from the Hartford Wolfpack on Thursday due to the injuries to Chris Drury and Brandon Dubinsky. Parenteau told MSG's John Giannone that he wants to make this callup permanent, his goal today is definitely a good start.

Henrik Lundqvist was sharp for the Rangers, making 35 saves, and stopping five of seven shots in the shootout.

Vinny Prospal scored the first shorthanded goal of his career, converting a pass from Marian Gaborik in the second period to tie the game at one. Brian Lee had put the Sens on the board earlier in the period with his second goal of the season.

Brian Elliot, starting in goal for the Senators in place of the struggling Pascal Leclaire, was also strong in this game, making 27 saves.

A growing problem for the Rangers continues to be the lack of offense from players not named Gaborik or Prospal. If the Rangers are to make it through their current shortage at center, players like Ryan Callahan and Chris Higgins need to pick up their game. Higgins was making his first start at center for the Rangers, and his play seemed to get stronger as the game moved along.
