Rangers Release 13 Players From Training Camp, Cut Roster Down to 48 Players
With preseason just a day away, New York made its first significant round of cuts—sending prospects to Hartford and juniors while releasing two tryouts.

With the first game of the preseason less than 24 hours away, the New York Rangers have trimmed their training camp roster by 13 names.

The follow players have been assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack's training camp:
- Gavin Hain (F)
- Kyle Jackson (F)
- Zakary Karpa (F)
- Sullivan Mack (F)
- Chris Merisier-Ortiz (D)
- Cooper Moore (D)
- Hugo Ollas (G)
- Callum Tung (G)
None of these cuts come as much of a surprise, as all six skaters were only on AHL deals to begin with. It's a bit surprising they didn't hold on to at least Ollas to potentially get half a preseason game from him. As for Tung, he doesn't have much professional experience to begin with, so it makes sense for him to report to Hartford.
Additionally, the following players have been assigned to their respective junior teams:
- Raoul Boilard (F)
- Artem Gonchar (D)
- Evan Passmore (D)
Lastly, Tim Lovell and Corbin Vaughan—who were both on tryouts—have been released.
The Rangers have 48 names remaining on their training camp roster. As far as who is expected to suit up tomorrow afternoon in New Jersey, it doesn't sound like many of the NHL regulars will be in the lineup.
Rangers are scheduled to play their first preseason game at 1pm tomorrow in NJ, but I wouldn’t expect to see many (if any) established vets. Sullivan told us he’s looking to get three appearances for most of those guys. We should start seeing them at MSG on Tues and Thurs. #NYR
