On Sunday, the New York Rangers agreed to one-year contract extensions with two of their goalie prospects, Dylan Garand and Talyn Boyko. Both men earned two-way contracts for the league minimum salary of $775,000; Garand will earn $100,000 in the minors with $125,000 guaranteed, while Boyko will earn $85,000 in the minors per PuckPedia.

Garand, 23, is coming off a phenomenal season with the Hartford Wolf Pack. In 39 appearances for Hartford, Garand posted a 20-10-8 record with a 2.73 GAA, a .913 SV%, and three shutouts. The former fourth-round pick (#103) in 2020 was named the AHL Goaltender of the Month for December 2024, becoming the first Wolf Pack goaltender to earn Goaltender of the Month honors since Igor Shesterkin in October 2019. He also represented the Wolf Pack at the 2025 AHL All-Star Classic in Coachella Valley.

Garand has made 112 career regular season appearances for the Wolf Pack over four seasons, where he owns a 49-42-16 record, a 2.92 GAA, a .902 SV%, and eight shutouts. He's earned a reputation as a strong playoff performer, with a 10-7-0 record, a 2.21 GAA, a .927 SV%, and two shutouts in 17 Calder Cup Playoff contests. With former Wolf Pack netminder Louis Domingue signing in Russia for the 2025-26 season, Garand will assume the starting role in Hartford and will be the next man up in net for the Rangers if Shesterkin or Jonathan Quick are unavailable.

Boyko spent most of the season in the ECHL, playing for the Tulsa Oilers. The former fourth-round pick (#112) in 2021 posted a 20-8-5 record, a 2.66 GAA, a .913 SV%, and two shutouts in 33 games. He also appeared in five games with the Wolf Pack, recording a 2-2-0 record, a 2.61 GAA, a .917 SV%, one shutout, and one assist.

Boyko will enter the 2025-26 season as a contender to back up Garand in Hartford next year; he'll compete with 2020 seventh-rounder (#197) Hugo Ollas and rookie undrafted free agent Callum Tung for the job.

Both players will once again be restricted free agents next season.
