Rangers Sign Erik Gustafsson to One-Year Deal

The New York Rangers have made another signing, and it is a really good one that bolsters their depth on the blueline.

Gustafsson is coming off a very impressive season with the Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs, and is a puck moving defenseman that can generate offense at 5v5.

Last season he posted a line of 7-35-42 in 70 games, and skated 19:46 a game. He is unlikely to log that many minutes here, but in a reduced role he's still got the opportunity to be a key contributor.

Gustafsson's deal will cost just $825,000 against the cap, and it is yet another low-cost signing that has high potential upside. The expectation is that him and Zac Jones will have a chance to claim the No. 6 spot on defense with the other serving as the No. 7 D, and given Gustafsson's abilities it will make for a nice competition in training camp.
