It's been almost 48 hours since the official start to free agency, but it doesn't appear the New York Rangers are done just yet. Continuing to address their depth, specifically at the AHL level, the Rangers have agree to terms with 26-year-old Trey Fix-Wolansky on a one-year, two-way contract with a league minimum $775,000 AAV.

A bit of an uncharacteristic signing for the Rangers seeing as he clocks in at 5-7 but aside from that, but this is a really good move by Chris Drury. Fix-Wolansky is coming off back-to-back 60-point seasons that were as close to identical as you can get, save for games played. In both seasons he had 26 goals and 34 assists, with last year being a full AHL season and the year prior a bit shorter as he spent 11 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets where he scored twice and picked up an assist.

A former seventh round pick (208th overall) in 2018, he has only ever played with the Columbus Blue Jackets at the professional level, so it will be quite interesting to see what he does with a change of scenery. This is a guy that not only addresses a need for the New York Rangers (natural right winger) but will immediately become a top-six forward for the Hartford Wolf Pack and could potentially get some games at the NHL level.

On a surface level, his size could be a concern, but he weighs in just under 200 pounds and, as a result, plays with a bit of an edge to his game. Beyond that, he's a highly skilled forward that has been a proven goal scorer in the AHL and even the NHL. He has only appeared in 26 NHL games but has collected four goals along the way. He's speedy, plays with tons of energy, and still has some upside. Another very good bit of business from Chris Drury.

It also appears that Fix-Wolansky was potentially a plan B of sorts as the Rangers were making a strong push for a similar player in Maxim Shabanov who ultimately ended up signing with the Islanders instead.
