Rangers Trade for Jody Shelley (UPDATE)

Stick salute to Mleetch for breaking the fact that it is a 6th round pick, which turns into a 5th if he re-signs with the Rangers.

Obviously the Rangers weren't too upset to see Donald Brashear go. As per TSN the Rangers have traded a draft pick (unspecified at this point) for San Jose Sharks forward Jody Shelley, a 34 year old bruiser.

Here is the full story:

The San Jose Sharks have traded forward Jody Shelley to the New York Rangers in exchange for a draft pick.

The 34-year-old Shelley racked up 78 penalty minutes in 36 games for the Sharks this season, while adding three assists. In 517 NHL games, Shelley had 43 points and 1310 penalty minutes.

The Sharks acquired the eight-year NHL veteran in January of 2008 from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a sixth round pick.

Ok not exactly the type of move I expected. Just speculating here but maybe Aaron Voros is on the way out as well. I don't know why they couldn't just promote him to fill this roll. Anyway, thoughts?
