Rangers Trade Jayden Grubbe to Edmonton Oilers

The New York Rangers have acquired a 5th round pick in the upcoming draft in exchange for the soon-to-be expiring rights of Jayden Grubbe.

Last month Frank Seravalli reported that the New York Rangers made Jayden Grubbe available, as they likely wouldn't be signing him to an ELC.

Grubbe was selected with the 1st pick of the 3rd round of the 2021 draft at No. 65 overall.

With the deadline set to come on Thursday, good on the Rangers for getting a draft pick that could potentially turn into something. The fact that it took over a month to get an offer they felt comfortable accepting could speak to the market that was out there for Grubbe.

A 5th-round pick could be anything, and something they bundle with other picks to move up in the later rounds, and it is certainly more than they'd have on June 2nd had they not come to terms with Grubbe altogether.
