Rangers vs. Bruins: Rangers Embarrassed 4-0 In Boston

The New York Rangers dropped their third consecutive game this evening as they were defeated 4-0 by the Boston Bruins. New York had some early jump in the game but that quickly faded as Boston scored an early goal, and followed it up with a shorthanded goal. Alexandar Georgiev had another rough outing in the crease as he allowed four goals on 14 shots, and was pulled early in the second period.

1st Period

David Pastrnak (12) – Brad Marchand (17) & Patrice Bergeron (14) – 4:14

With the Rangers looking to have a better start in this game, they went to work in the offensive zone with some solid shifts. However, the Bruins were able to flip the script as David Pastrnak beat Alexandar Georgiev from just inside the blue line. There wasn’t much of a screen on the play, if any at al, as Pastrnak sailed the shot over Georgiev’s right shoulder to make it a 1-0 game.

Patrice Bergeron (10) – Brad Marchand (18) SHG – 17:34

New York had a golden opportunity to jump back into the game late in the first period as they went to work on their first power play. As has been the case lately, the Rangers power play actually worked against them as the Bruins had several scoring chances while shorthanded. They eventually caught the Rangers as Brad Marchand beat Pavel Buchnevich with a move, and he found Patrice Bergeron off to the right post. The Rangers just had a lack of awareness coming back and they found themselves down by a pair of goals.

2nd Period

David Krejci (1) – Matt Grzelcyk (6) & Brad Marchand (19) PPG – 3:31

While the Rangers weren’t able to get much going on their power play chances, Boston made the most of their opportunities. David Krejci was able to pick up just his first goal of the season with a rocket from the top circles. The shot beat Alexandar Georgiev on the glove side as he stretched back to make the save.

Jake DeBrusk (2) – David Krejci (12) – 4:52

A little over a minute later, Boston continued pouring on the offense as they extended their lead to a four goals. The Bruins’ forecheck gave the Rangers too much trouble below the goal line, and K’Andre Miller wound up wiping out with the puck on his stick. David Krejci was able to steal the loose puck and found Jake DeBrusk wide open at the top of the crease.  The goal would end Georgiev’s night for the second consecutive game and Keith Kinkaid entered in relief for the remainder of the game.

3rd Period

No scoring.

This was a pretty embarrassing effort by all accounts, and the Rangers’ offense no showed once again. Goaltending has clearly been an issue as well for New York as Alexandar Georgiev was yanked early for the second consecutive game. Artemiy Panarin and Igor Shesterkin are on the verge of returning, while Vitali Kravtsov will make his way over from Russia after being eliminated from the KHL Playoffs. However, the Rangers will need to turn this around pretty quickly if they plan on even sniffing the playoffs at this points.

Having points slip away in this fashion will only hurt you as the season progresses, and the Rangers have done way too much of that thus far. Following tonight’s embarrassing effort, the Rangers will go again on Saturday afternoon to close out the two-game set against the Boston Bruins.
