Rangers vs. Bruins Recap: Rangers Drop Second Straight with 3-0 Loss to Bruins

After failing to show up against the New York Islanders on Tuesday night, the New York Rangers had a similar showing tonight against the Boston Bruins as they were defeated 3-0. Right from the opening face-off, the Rangers appeared to be a few steps behind the Bruins, and chased the play for a majority of the first period. Cam Talbot didn't get much help tonight either, as the Rangers constantly left someone uncontested in front of the net which directly resulted in two of the three goals.

Just four minutes into the game, Patrice Bergeron was able to give the Bruins an early 1-0 lead as he chipped in a rebound to the side of Talbot. After losing the draw in the defensive zone, the Rangers were unable to regroup after the point shot from Dougie Hamilton, which allowed Bergeron to pounce on the loose puck. Following the goal, the Rangers started to find their legs, and generated a handful of opportunities, but Tuukka Rask was up to the task all night long.

First it was Chris Kreider who busted in down the wing, but was unable to slip the puck around Rask who was sprawled out in the crease. Then a few minutes later, it was Carl Hagelin who rang one off of the post after a nifty pass from Dominic Moore on a 3-on-2 rush. As it has been going for the last two games, the Rangers certainly have had their chances to score, but just can't get the bounces to go their way at the moment. The chances are certainly there, it's just a matter of finishing them off now.

After cranking up the pressure a little bit nearing the end of the first period, the Rangers quickly found themselves in a 2-0 hole at the start of the second period. Just 2:49 into the second period, Torey Krug laid up a beautiful cross-ice feed to David Krejci and he tapped it into the yawning net. Lee Stempniak and Carl Hagelin had a bit of a miscommunication on the goal as neither of them decided to challenge Krug, and allowed him plenty of time to make a play. In addition to Hagelin and Stempniak, Ryan McDonagh had drifted out to the high slot, which left Krejci all alone in front for the easy tap in.

The woes continued for the Rangers in the third period, as Chris Kreider landed an ugly hit on Carl Soderberg which sent tempers flying. Kreider wound up dropping the gloves with Chris Kelly right after the hit, and essentially ended hit night as he was forced to serve seven minutes in penalties. About three minutes after the scrap, Loui Eriksson capped off the scoring after scooping up a loose puck in front, and roofed it over the shoulder of Cam Talbot.

Once again, the Rangers failed to clear the front of their net, and basically let Eriksson have all the time he needed to smoke one by Talbot. The last few minutes were fairly uneventful, and the Rangers went on to lose their second straight game by the score of 3-0. The Rangers will need to forget about this one pretty quickly, as they will be right back in action tomorrow night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
