Rangers Vs. Flyers Preview: Rangers Look To Rebound After Last Meeting With Flyers
After dropping 2-1 to the Philadelphia Flyers just a week ago, the New York Rangers will look to rebound against their division foes tonight at Madison Square Garden.
After a much needed confidence win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, the New York Rangers are looking to emulate that game against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Rangers played their most complete game of the season against the Maple Leafs, and it eventually paid off in the end. They never got down on themselves despite dominating most of the game, and they wound up coming away with two points.

The Rangers are looking to do much of the same tonight as they did on Saturday. Last time these two divisional rivals met, it was their first meeting of the season. The Flyers, who were rolling with an injury depleted roster, were able to squeak out a 2-1 victory against the struggling Rangers. Hopefully this time things work in the Rangers favor, rather than against them. The lines are starting to come into form, and the first line of Brad Richards, Marian Gaborik, and Rick Nash has been dominating in fashion.
The Flyers are still struggling with some injury problems, but some key components are back in place for tonight's meeting. Brayden Schenn is back from his suspension, as well as Danny Briere returning from his wrist injury. They will still be without Scott Hartnell who is expected to miss at least a month, and Andrej Meszaros who injured his shoulder last game against the Rangers.
Some Quick Thoughts:
*** Henrik Lundqvist is expected to get the nod once again tonight, as he was the first goalie off at the morning skate. This will be his sixth straight start of the season, and while it's not completely surprising, it's almost expected with the Rangers schedule starting out very top heavy. With the schedule toning down a bit over the next few weeks, I expect we will see some of Marty Biron.
*** This almost seems like a reoccurring theme in every one of our game previews thus far. The Rangers have absolutely blown it up on the power play, and they can't seem to shake it. We saw this issue last time against the Flyers as they had a full two minute 5-on-3, and couldn't capitalize. It eventually wound up costing them the game. It was much of the same on Saturday but it didn't impact the outcome of the game as much. We said it all throughout last season as well, special teams will win games, whether it be penalty killing or a power play. The Rangers worked on their power play the other day at practice, so we'll see the outcome of that tonight in the event they do actually get the man advantage.
