Rangers Vs. Islanders: Rangers Fall to Islanders 5-2 in Connecticut

Following a 6-4 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night, the New York Rangers continued their preseason schedule tonight against the New York Islanders. Here are the goals and takeaways from tonight’s game.

1-0 Rangers
Cody McLeod - Assists: Peter Holland

The Rangers had a considerable amount of control early on in this game, and they were able to come away with the first goal of the night. After a strong shift in the offensive zone, the Rangers drew a penalty and Peter Holland sniped one home on the delayed call. Holland was absolutely flying around on his entire shift, and finally converted in the high slot with plenty of traffic in front of the net. Cody McLeod was credited with the goal, but I’d imagine this will be changed to Holland’s goal by the end of the night.

1-1 Tie
Anthony Beauvillier - Assists: Thomas Hickey, Josh Bailey

The Islanders were able to nullify the Rangers’ quick start with a pretty impressive goal by Anthony Beauvillier from the high slot. Thomas Hickey, Josh Bailey and Beauvillier went tic-tac-toe right from the offensive zone faceoff, and Beauvillier finished it off with a rocket of a one timer that beat Alexandar Georgiev over the shoulder.

2-1 Islanders
Josh Baily - Assists: Matthew Barzal

With a power play carrying over from the first period, the Islanders made quick work with the man-advantage and took a 2-1 lead. Matthew Barzal found Josh Bailey wide open in the right faceoff circle and ripped a one timer past Alexandar Georgiev on the short side.

3-1 Islanders
Anders Lee - Unassisted

Nearly ten minutes later, the Islanders converted on yet another power play and took control of the game with a commanding 3-1 lead. Anders Lee was the recipient of the third goal after the puck worked its way to the front of the net on a broken play, and Lee tapped home the rebound on the empty net.

4-1 Islanders
Anthony Beauvillier (2) - Assists: Brock Nelson, Parker Wotherspoon

Following a pair of quick goals to open up the second period, the Islanders kept their foot on the pedal and made it a 4-1 game. Anthony Beauvillier picked up his second goal on the night with a dazzling move around Kevin Shattenkirk and beating Dustin Tokarski through the legs.

4-2 Islanders
Ryan Spooner - Assists: Mats Zuccarello

After going through the entire second period without a goal on the board, the Rangers finally broke the scoreless streak with 0.7 seconds remaining in the second period. Mats Zuccarello and Ryan Spooner connected on a beautiful give-and-go passing play and Spooner slammed home the puck with Thomas Greiss sprawling in his crease.

5-2 Islanders
Ryan Pulock - Assists: Jordan Eberle, Parker Wotherspoon

The Rangers were able to bring this game back within a pair of goals, but the Islanders quickly eliminated any hopes of a comeback by making it a three goal game. Ryan Pulock scored his first goal of the game and it sure didn’t disappoint, as he toe dragged to the middle of the ice and sniped the puck over Dustin Tokarski on the shortside.
