Rangers vs Islanders: Rangers Finally Break the Losing Streak at Barclays Center

The New York Rangers finally broke the curse of the Barclays Center this afternoon, as they snapped a seven game losing streak in Brooklyn, and defeated the New York Islanders 2-1. Unlike the previous game on Thursday, the Rangers were much more structured defensively, and overall were much better in all three zones. The game winning goal came late in the third period for the Rangers as an errant puck deflected off of Mats Zuccarello’s skate and into the back of the net.

Here is today’s goal breakdown.

1-0 Islanders
Anthony Beauvillier (12) - Josh Bailey (24) & Ryan Pulock (16) - 8:40 2nd Period

After hitting numerous posts throughout the game, the Islanders finally caught a favorable bounce as Anthony Beauvillier slammed home a puck after spinning off of the goal line. Beauvillier tried this same exact move seconds prior and was denied, but this time around he was able to reach around Alexandar Georgiev’s right pad and stuffed the puck in on the far side to make it 1-0 Islanders.

1-1 Tie
Filip Chytil (7) - Boo Nieves (2) - 14:09 2nd Period

A little under six minutes after the Islanders took the lead, the Rangers responded with a goal of their own coming from Filip Chytil. Boo Nieves created this entire goal with a great individual move through three separate defenders, and quickly dished the puck over to Chytil as the Islanders closed in on him. He waited just long enough for Chytil to create himself a lane, and Chytil flipped the puck over Robin Lehner to make it a 1-1 game.

2-1 Rangers
Mats Zuccarello (5) - Tony DeAngelo (8) & Mika Zibanejad (24) - 14:55 3rd Period

The Rangers finally broke the tie game late in the third period after the puck took multiple deflections in front of the net, and went in off of Mats Zuccarello’s skate. Originally it appeared as if Chris Kreider got the final deflection on the puck, but it was credited to Mats Zuccarello and held up as the game winning goal in this game.

Following the Rangers’ first win at Barclays Center, they will be right back on the road as they meetup with the Columbus Blue Jackets tomorrow evening at 6:00 PM.
