Rangers vs. Mammoth: It Keeps Getting Worse
Four straight losses, no scoring touch, and two defensemen doing all the heavy lifting—the Rangers look completely stuck.
- At this point if you happen to be a team on a losing streak you should be begging to play the New York Rangers. No other team is qualified to come in, find a way not to win (whether they play really well and just can't score, or they come in and play terrible ... and still can't score). That's who the Rangers have become.
- Utah outshot the Rangers 34-22 in this one. Including a 13-7 edge in the third period, and an 8-3 edge in the second. Jonathan Quick was—sit down for this—fantastic once again, but just didn't get any run support. This feels like it could have been one of any game this year, aside from the fact that the Rangers scored two goals.
- I have said this repeatedly on the podcast and will say it again here: I just do not know how you bet on this team. They're likely going to be fine, likely going to make the playoffs, and will probably win a game or two—but that's about as far as this group is going. And with vanishingly small assets to pry from, I just don't see how you buy to fix this.
