Rangers vs Panthers: An Epic Career Ends and the Humiliation Continues

Jonathan Quick's career is over. The Rangers sent him off by losing to a Panthers lineup with five players still looking for their first NHL goal. This one was infuriating.

  • Allow me to quote...well...me...
  • Jonathan Quick made his NHL debut on Dec. 6, 2007, for the Los Angeles Kings in an 8-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. For some perspective, this year's presumptive first overall draft pick, Gavin McKenna, was born 14 days after Quick's debut.
  • Every so often some idiot will say of a team, "they're so bad they would lose to an AHL team" or a college team. And the answer is always the same, "stop being an idiot." Well, tonight we got to see that in practice.
  • The Panthers started four players who had been in their lineup last year when they won the Stanley Cup. In preseason games you're supposed to start eight regular players.
  • Only two players in Florida's lineup came into the game having recorded more than 30 points on the season. Their top line of Mackie Samoskevich-Eetu Luostarinen-AJ Greer came in with a combined 36 goals. Mika Zibanejad came into the game with 33 goals. Luke Kunin's 75 career goals were the most of all players in Florida's lineup. Five of the players in the Panthers' lineup came into the game in search of their first NHL goal.
  • Why am I pointing out all of these things? Because they make the fact that the Rangers laid a fucking egg against a glorified AHL team all the more infuriating.
