Rangers vs. Penguins: Igor and the Kids
Shesterkin carried the Rangers, Perreault delivered his best game yet, and Vincent Trocheck’s presence raised bigger questions than the win itself.
- Igor Shesterkin, man. Does the work of ten men, tells the media he didn't read The Letter 2.0 because he doesn't speak English (in English), and literally kept the New York Rangers in a hockey game they somehow had no business winning for the first 30 minutes, and then had no business losing the last 35.
- Also, stick tap to the Garden fans, the place was alive. I mean, alive. I don't know if some of you still believe, or if it's just the nature of New York Rangers fans, but that was sort of nice to see.
- Gabe Perreault had the best game I have seen him play as a Ranger, too. He has been talking about how the game is slowing down for him, and the puck was literally following him around all night. He ended the night without a point, but he was so damn good in this game. He ended up playing 17:59 in total—although he only got a single shift in overtime, which I will address later. But in a season where almost nothing is really worth looking forward to, he's one of those things that is.

- Gonna be honest with you here, waiver pickup Tye Kartye was far more impressive than I thought he would be. The kid has a motor, is a really goo puck hunter, and can kill penalties. You're going to need guys like that when Vincent Trocheck is traded. Speaking of ...
- I think it's really cool that Trocheck got his moment to celebrate the gold medal on Thursday. I think it is utterly stupid he played in that game, but I understood. I do not, under any circumstances, understand why Trocheck played in that game. The points do not matter, the Rangers are not making the playoffs, they are assuredly trading Trocheck, and having him risk injury where Chris Drury loses his biggest trade chip for nothing is stupid on a level I can't articulate here.
