Tonight at 7pm at Aviator Sports and Events Center the Riveters will look for their first franchise win against a team that beat them by a score of 7-1 on October 18th. The Riveters are going to have to find a way to stymie the attack of two of the NWHL's most dangerous forwards; Hilary Knight and Brianna Decker.
Banter Feature: Interview with Bray Ketchum
A standout at Yale and in the CWHL with the Boston Blades and now one of the New York Riveters best two-way forwards, Bray Ketchum was kind enough to do an interview with me recently.
At least one thing that will be different this time around is that the Riveters will be joined by Sydney Kidd for the first time after she was able to join the team this week and finally get past her visa issues which had put a hiccup in the debuts of several Canadian-born players around the league. Kidd is a versatile player capable of playing both forward and defense and although most analysts, including myself, had her pegged for the Riveters' blue line, she has only been listed as a forward by the Riveters in promotions leading up to tonight's rematch against the Boston Pride.
On the meeting on October 18th Zoe Hickel and Brianna Decker each had 3 point games against the Riveters and Gabie Figueroa scored the only New York Riveters goal of the game.
The Riveters and Pride both took a slew of penalties in what was a very chippy, physical game. New York is going to need to work hard to walk the fine line between being physical but not undisciplined against Boston. Putting the Pride and their big guns on the power play all night long is a sure recipe for disaster and another home loss at the Aviator Sports and Events Center.
Tonight the Riveters are going to have to put a priority on discipline and focus on shutting down Boston's big line. There's a chance they also might be getting Erin Barley-Maloney back into the lineup after she has missed some time with an injury, but that is unclear at this point. Barley-Maloney is another versatile skater that can play both forward and defense although she too appears likely to be used almost exclusively as a forward.
The Riveters tweeted out the roster for tonight's game today and that tweet can be seen here:
The puck drops on the Riveters and Pride at 7:00 PM tonight. Please use this as your pregame and open game thread for tonight's NWHL action or to discuss the game which you can watch live-streamed on the Riveters' YouTube page.
