The All-Star Game and break is in the rear view mirror and the New York Riveters are returning to action today on the road against the same team that broke their hearts in the shootout two weeks ago. When the puck drops at 3:30PM today the Riveters will once again meet Emily Pfalzer, Kelly Steadman, and the rest of their in-state rivals at the HarborCenter.

Top Scorer

Brooke Ammerman (9)

Kourtney Kunichika (15)

Since the last time these two teams have met the Riveters made history by trading goaltender Shenae Lundberg to Connecticut Whale for Chelsea Laden. The HarborCenter last saw NWHL action when the All-Star Game was hosted their last weekend when Team Pfalzer crushed Team Knight in both the skills competition and the game proper much to Hilary Knight's chagrin.

More Riveters Reading

The Riveters and the Beauts are currently tied for last in the league, but after today's game there will only be one team with that ignominious title. With just five regular season games remaining on the schedule before the first NWHL postseason gets underway there is no time like the present for the Riveters to find their game and start playing some winning hockey.

Something to keep an eye on during today's game is whether or not the Riveters will be able to stay out of the box against the diminutive Beauts who excel at drawing penalties. Buffalo is dependent on their power play for the bulk of their offense and their scoring chances while the Riveters have often been deflated by their own power play opportunities. If the Riveters can win the battle at even strength they have a good chance to win their fourth game of the season and exact some revenge on the road after a disheartening shootout loss at Aviator just two weeks ago.

More than anything the Riveters need to get healthy, to get their power play going, and to start getting some big performances out of star players like Nana Fujimoto, Janine Weber, Brooke Ammerman, and Ludmila Belyakova. Let's see if the All-Star break and/or the Laden trade did anything to get the Riveters feeling like a more confident, complete hockey team.
