Traverse City Tournament: Carolina 4, Rangers 3 Highlights
The New York Rangers kicked off the Traverse City Prospect tournament this afternoon, and faced off against the Carolina Hurricanes. While the game could have went either way, the Rangers weren’t able to get the job done and lost 4-3 in overtime. Despite the unfortunate outcome, there was plenty to write home about, including strong game’s from Pavel Buchnevich, Jimmy Vesey, Malte Stromwall, and Robin Kovacs.
All four are considered to near the top of the Rangers prospect list, and they preformed very well this afternoon. With the Rangers not practicing yesterday, they came out a little slow to start this game, and the Hurricanes took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period.
The Rangers would continue to trail until the second period, where Jimmy Vesey put home his first goal in a Rangers sweater. Courtesy of our very own Alex Nunn, here is a replay of Vesey’s goal that tied up the game at one.

Shortly after Vesey scored, the Hurricanes tied it back up quickly on the power play and took a 2-1 lead. Just as fast the go-ahead goal ended up in their net, the Rangers responded right back with the Swedish connection between Malte Stromwall and Robin Kovacs.

Just seconds later, the Rangers would find their second consecutive goal as camp invite Dylan DiPerna slipped it between Alex Nedeljkovic’s legs. Nearing the end of the second period, the Hurricanes would tie up the game once again after Brandon Halverson let in a soft goal coming from Lucas Wallmark.
The third period went scoreless, and the first game of this tournament headed to overtime. After numerous opportunities at either end, the Hurricanes were able to come out on top and Sergei Tolchinsky sent the Rangers packing in overtime.
