Why the Hartford Wolf Pack Had to Clean House
The Wolf Pack made a coaching change following a last place finish this season. Here's why it had to happen.
On the evening of Sunday, May 3rd, 2026, the Hartford Wolf Pack cleaned house. Two weeks after their season ended, the Wolf Pack and New York Rangers jointly announced that Wolf Pack head coach Grant Potulny, plus assistant coaches Jamie Tardif and Paul Mara, had been relieved of their duties in Hartford.

The dismissal of the Wolf Pack's entire coaching staff came after two straight years of disappointing finishes under the trio in the Connecticut capital. Hartford finished in 27th out of 32 teams during the 2024-25 campaign, followed by a league-wide last place finish this past season.
Based on the results, the firings are easy to justify. I said as much when Joe and Eric invited me on the 83rd episode of the Blueshirt Bandwidth podcast to discuss Hartford's disastrous season. But those that didn't consistently watch the Wolf Pack over the past two seasons had additional questions. What actually happened that led to two straight years of dismal finishes and the eventual firing of the entire coaching staff?
Let's dive into why cleaning house was the only decision for the Wolf Pack.
