Riveters head coach and general manager Chad Wiseman has made his second trade in two days and this time around he has landed the rights to Hannah Brandt, the second overall pick in the 2015 NWHL Draft, from the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

From the NWHL's press release:

Brandt (Minnesota) is a first round pick by the Whale, chosen second overall in the 2015 NWHL Draft. In four years with the Gophers, the forward collected 285 points (115g, 170a) in 158 games. Trivigno (Boston College) was drafted in the fourth round, thirteenth overall, by the Riveters. At BC, the forward scored 138 points (57g, 81a) in 148 games. Trivigno recently earned a gold medal with USA Hockey at the IIHF Women’s World Championship.

In addition, the Whale will receive a $2,000 draft tax towards their salary cap from the Riveters, as negotiated by Wiseman and Giovanelli.

Brandt and Trivigno may continue any contract negotiations already in progress with their new club. This is the second trade between the Riveters and Whale this offseason, who traded second round picks Haley Skarupa and Michelle Picard yesterday.

It appears that Chad Wiseman is stockpiling speed, skill, and puck movement to his roster. Brandt was an even strength monster as a Golden Gopher.

Of course, there is no guarantee that Brandt will sign with the Riveters or that Trivigno, a teammate with the recently traded Haley Skarupa and Carpenter, will sign with the Whale, but both teams have inside tracks on negotiating contracts with the players they acquired in the trades.

The potential impact of the $2,000 draft tax on the salary cap cannot be overstated. The Riveters have just four players signed and will likely need to shell out big contracts to both Carpenter and Brandt if they want to convince them to pull on jerseys that have Rosie the Riveter on them. There are also big name players including Liudmila Belyakova, Janine Weber, and Nana Fujimoto who are currently unsigned and will likely take up significant cap space.
