Rangers Recall Boo Nieves from Hartford, Send Tim Gettinger Back Down

Nieves gets the nod

The New York Rangers have recalled center Cristoval “Boo” Nieves from the Hartford Wolf Pack and have sent rookie forward Tim Gettinger back down to the club’s AHL affiliate. Veteran forward Greg McKegg left last night’s game with an apparent lower-body injury.

Gettinger put three shots on net in his season debut against the Washington Capitals on Nov. 20 and earned an assist against the Ottawa Senators on Nov. 22. He did not dress in the Rangers’ 6-5 comeback win over the Montreal Canadiens. In his two games with the Rangers, he averaged 8:23 TOI/GP.

The New York native has three points — all assists — in his last nine games with the Wolf Pack and a total of eight points in 20 GP this year. He’s currently riding a 16-game goal-scoring drought in the AHL and hasn’t scored a goal in the month of October.

Nieves, 25, will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season. He was the Rangers’ 59th overall pick of the 2012 Draft and has 19 points in 72 career games in the NHL. Nieves spent the majority of the 2018-19 season in New York, but did not make the 2019-20 roster out of training camp. He’s yet to play a game for the Rangers this season.
