October was a month of mixed results for the New York Rangers, but there were still a number of highlights. We’re going to look at a few of the team’s top plays through the first month of the season to figure out which one was the best.

Panarin, Buchnevich, and Zibanejad combine for highlight-reel goal in Ottawa

In a return to Ottawa to face his former team, Zibanejad scored a hat trick and ended up with a four-point night. The most notable of those points was his second goal of the game. Adam Fox sent a stretch puck up the ice to Artemiy Panarin, who entered the zone and dished to Zibanejad. The Rangers’ leading pivot threaded a royal road pass to Pavel Buchnevich, who returned a cross-slot pass right back. Even Zibanejad was impressed with his teammate’s passing after scoring his second goal.

Kaapo Kakko’s first NHL goal

The Rangers’ tilt against the Oilers was one of their worst games of the season, but one play stood out above the rest — Kakko’s first NHL goal. It was the first of many for the Rangers’ second overall pick, thanks to a nice pass from linemate Ryan Strome.

Panarin’s goal against the Buffalo Sabres

Is anyone more excited about Artemiy Panarin being a Ranger than Artemiy Panarin? While this wasn’t his first tally in a Rangers’ sweater, it was a goal he created all by himself. It encapsulated how hard he works, his skill, and his enthusiasm all in one shot.

Chytil’s first goal of the season

Expectations were high for sophomore Filip Chytil this season, but when he fell short, he started the season with a demotion to Hartford. Chytil’s progression with the Wolf Pack made it clear that his stay in the AHL would be temporary. Once back in New York, he debuted on the second line between Chris Kreider and Buchnevich. His play, which was highlighted by his first NHL goal of the year, helped the Rangers put together one of their best games of the season.

Adam Fox’s first NHL goal

Our final highlight was also from the Rangers’ win over the Lightning. We’re going to focus in on Adam Fox’s NHL goal. He’s been one of the most effective defenders, even though he hasn’t had the points to show for it. His first goal and second point of the season may not be the flashiest play for the rookie defenseman, but it was a milestone moment and a reward for his stability on both ends of the ice through their first month of the season.
