Game #3: New York Rangers vs Montreal Canadiens Open Thread

After losing on back to back nights to open the season, the Rangers are making their first trip north of the border since the 2019-20 campaign for a matchup with the Montreal Canadiens. Montreal’s Cindarella run to the Stanley Cup Finals has been well documented by now, but they’ll have to battle the Rangers without Carey Price tonight.

Ryan Strome will be missing tonight’s game due to COVID protocols, but with Sammy Blais re-entering the lineup after missing the home opener against Dallas, the team’s decision to recall Greg McKegg from AHL Hartford doesn’t look like it’ll factor into tonight’s action. Strome’s absence has resulted in a hole on the second line, and the Blueshirts are hoping that hole can be filled effectively.

Player to Watch: Filip Chytil

Chytil will be slotting up the lineup with Strome sitting out tonight’s game. In spite of skating in the league for parts of four seasons already, Chytil has yet to be flanked by wingers as potent as Artemiy Panarin and Kaapo Kakko. With residents of Rangerstown clamoring for Chytil to earn a shot higher in the lineup, tonight will serve as a prime opportunity for the young Czech to show his stuff.

Enjoy the game!
