Adam Edstrom Heads to LTIR, Matt Rempe Begins Practicing

Tough blow for the fourth line with Edstrom sidelined, but Rempe’s return to practice gives the Rangers a much-needed jolt of size, chaos, and vibes.

"The Swedish Condor" won't be taking flight for a while.

Earlier this morning, Mollie Walker of the New York Post, reported that the Rangers placed 25-year-old forward Adam Edstrom on LTIR due to a lower-body injury that he sustained in practice earlier this month.

The news of Edstrom being placed on LTIR comes just a day after Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan told reporters that he wouldn't be traveling to Chicago for tonight's game against the Blackhawks.

It's certainly a tough break for Edstrom, who suffered a significant lower-body injury in a 6-3 loss to the Boston Bruins back in February, which caused him to miss the Rangers' final 31 games of the season. At the time, Edstrom had become one of the lone positives in the Rangers' bottom-six, putting up nine points (5goals and 4 assists) in 51 games (ATOI: 9:16) while also racking up 94 hits and 34 blocked shots. It's a similar story this season for the big man, as through 24 games played, he's notched four points (2G, 2A), 13 blocked shots, and 48 hits.

It's a big loss for the Rangers' fourth line—hopefully, we see Edstrom back soon.

Matt Rempe Begins Practicing

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a 6'9" fan favorite!

Yesterday morning, much to the delight of a plethora of Rangers fans, Vince Mercogliano of The Athletic posted a video of Matt Rempe practicing in a non-contact jersey.

Rempe, who Mike Sullivan said will travel with the team to Chicago, has missed a total of 23 games, having last suited up on Oct. 23, a 6-5 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks.

In that game, Rempe saw the ice for just 19 seconds and sustained the injury in question in a fight with noted NHL enforcer and 16-year veteran Ryan Reaves.

"He's skated a fair amount on his own with our skills coaches, and the next step is to get him on with the group in the team setting in a non-contact jersey," Mike Sullivan noted to reporters after Rangers practice on December 9th.

Through just nine games played this season, Rempe has one goal, seven penalty minutes, two blocked shots, and 30 hits (ATOI: 9:48). Whenever it is that Rempe does take the ice again for the Rangers, I'm more than confident that his legion of admirers will be there to welcome him back.
