Assessing the Rangers' Needs Ahead of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft
With eight picks and a thin pipeline, the Rangers have one obvious priority in the draft. But that’s just the beginning of their 2025 to-do list.

The New York Rangers may not have their first round pick this year, but that doesn’t mean that this upcoming draft is not of importance in navigating Chris Drury’s future vision for the New York Rangers.
With eight selections across rounds two through seven on the second day of the NHL Entry Draft, the Rangers have lots of important decisions to make and a rather depleted prospect pool to refill.
Before we can truly indicate what the Rangers need going into this draft, let’s take a quick look at what their current depth chart looks like.

Again, these aren’t necessarily meant to be expected line combinations. This is just a rough estimate of what the Rangers are looking at in terms of depth. Some players may be placed outside of their expected position for the sake of this exercise, and surely things could look a whole lot different at any given moment this week. In addition to what’s listed above, the Rangers also have the following prospects who are not yet signed and don't necessarily need to sign for another year or so, with the exception of one player.
Henricks - Lamb - Aspinall
Karpa* - Boilard - Gredig
Fortescue - Emery
Larsson
*Must sign ELC by August 15th this summer or the Rangers give up his rights
