Breaking News: Rangers Sign Free Agent Forward Kayleigh Petersen
The Rangers announced today that they have come to agreement with the homegrown forward from East Brunswick, New Jersey.
After losing in the shootout to the New York Islanders last night, the New York Rangers figured they needed just a little bit more firepower up front. So the team turned to free agent Kayleigh Petersen, from East Brunswick, NJ, to fill the role. Kayleigh played her amateur hockey in the House Mite League as well as part of the Memorial Elementary School development program, which is where her speed, skill, and creativity really caught the eye of the Rangers amatuer scouting.
Coming in at 5'2 and being a right handed shot, the Rangers coaching staff would be wise to put her opposite Mats Zuccarello both on the power play and at even strength. Kayleigh is also the first female hockey player to sign with the New York Rangers.
Kayleigh will wear #23 with the Rangers, following in the footsteps of former Rangers greats Jayson Megna and Chris Drury.
The term and salary were not disclosed, so the roster moves to fit her under the cap remain to be seen.
Here are the tweets from the Rangers official twitter account that announced the signing:
