Podcast Ombudsman Report for Blueshirt Bandwidth Ep. 107
A playoff wardrobe plan, a pop star who took over the Garden, and a fresh look at whether the Rangers really got the 2020 draft right.
Welcome back to the Blueshirt Bandwidth Podcast Ombudsman Report. Each week, Charlie Vidal will listen to the latest episode of the podcast and correct the record on anything Joe and Eric get wrong. If you aren't already, you can listen and subscribe to the podcast here.
Eric’s Jersey Superstition
Eric said his postseason superstition is to wear a jersey for every playoff game and then change it for the next game if the Rangers lose. He then said he has plenty of jerseys to get through a seven-game series. That would require a maximum of four jerseys, changing the jersey after each of the three losses on the way to a seven-game series win.
Rangers Light Schedule
Eric and Joe were discussing how it feels like the New York Rangers haven't played that many games so far this season. Harry Styles has 14 concerts at Madison Square Garden in October that the Rangers and New York Knicks have to schedule around.
NHL teams all have a bye week surrounding the All-Star Game, with a minimum of eight days between regular-season games. The All-Star Game festivities will be on Feb. 5 and 6 at UBS Arena. The Rangers will have home games on Feb. 3 and Feb. 12, with everybody who isn't participating in the All-Star Game getting a full week off.
2020 Options
Eric and Joe discussed whether Alexis Lafrenière was the best pick at the top of the 2020 NHL draft, comparing him to Quinton Byfield, Tim Stützle, and Seth Jarvis. So far, Jarvis and Stützle have had the best starts to their careers, according to Evolving-Hockey's xGAR:
