Dan Girardi Named Rangers Nomination For Bill Masterton Trophy

The New York PHWA chapter has named Dan Girardi the New York Rangers’ nominee for the Bill Masterton Trophy.

The Bill Masterton Trophy if given to players who show perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.

Sometimes this award is given to players who have overcome serious injuries or situations (see: Mats Zuccarello being nominated last year). This year the Rangers had no such nominee (thankfully), so Girardi is a good fit as he easily fills all of the qualifications and then some.

Remember, this is simply the Rangers nominee for the award. Every PHWA chapter nominates players from their respective teams who are then put up for the award. I’m not as in tune with who else might be nominated from around the league but I’m hopeful Girardi gets a play on it.

It’s a deserving honor for the currently injured Girardi. Maybe there will also be a Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award (of which Girardi has never won) in there for him too this year.
