New York Rangers News: Rangers Acquire James Sheppard From San Jose
The New York Rangers made their third move of the day by acquiring James Sheppard from the San Jose Sharks.
After sending Lee Stempniak to the Winnipeg Jets earlier this evening, the New York Rangers continued wheeling and dealing, and completed their third move of the day. According to Darren Dreger, the Rangers added bottom-six forward James Sheppard to the mix, and sent a 2016 4th-round pick back to the San Jose Sharks.
In addition to the move, Pierre LeBrun also mentions that San Jose is retaining $100,000 of Sheppard's salary to help the Rangers salary cap situation. Before the retention, Sheppard was earning $1.3 million, and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year.
This move obviously brings in Stempniak's replacement, and provides the Rangers with more of a shutdown guy for the bottom-six. He won't produce as much offensively as Stempniak did, but he has the ability to chip in here and there.
