New York Rangers News: Rangers, Kreider Only $600k Apart In Contract Talks
With only two days left until his scheduled arbitration hearing, Chris Kreider and the New York Rangers are pretty close on a new deal.
The New York Rangers will be quite busy over the next several weeks as salary arbitration hearings approach for Chris Kreider, Mats Zuccarello, and Derick Brassard. After signing a pair of free agents last week in Matthew Lombardi and Lee Stempniak, the Rangers final plan of attack is to lock up all of their remaining restricted free agents.
With only 48 hours to go until Chris Kreider's arbitration hearing, both sides are required to submit initial offers prior to the scheduled hearing. The good news? It appears as if the Kreider and the Rangers are only about $600,000 apart in their offers, which leaves plenty of time to strike a deal before Wednesday.
As per Elliotte Friedman, Kreider is reportedly seeking $2.8 million annually, while the Rangers have countered with two separate two-year deals at $1.9 million, and another at $2.2 million. Since this was a player-elected hearing, the Rangers had the option of settling for a one or two year deal.
Both sides can still negotiate for the next 48 hours, and with their initial offers being so close, I don't see any reason why this can't be signed off on before Wednesday afternoon.
