New York Rangers Prospect Pipeline Scouting Report: Cole Beaudoin
Following an 88 point season and a 29 point postseason, the freshest face in the Rangers prospect pool should be an integral part of the organization's future.
Wherever you land on the decision to trade Vincent Trocheck, one thing is undeniable: Cole Beaudoin has immediately become the New York Rangers top center prospect in the organization.
A former 24th overall draft pick in 2024 and one of the few players in the NHL to say they were drafted by the Utah Hockey Club (pre-Mammoth), Beaudoin is coming off a remarkable final season of junior hockey as c0-captain of the Barrie Colts and is ready to make his mark with a new franchise.
A left-shot center who clocks in at 6-2, 211 pounds, Beaudoin has been described as a "mutant in the best way," but was regarded as more of a smart, two-way center ahead of his draft year. While his size was there leading up to the 2024 draft, it was more Beaudoin's playmaking, as well as his strong shot, that made him stand out. Despite drawing comparison to John Tavares, Beaudoin was projected to be a solid middle-six center. Here's what I had to say about him during our 2024 Mock Draft series:
Beaudoin is a realistic, great choice towards the end of round one. He has the potential to be a solid third line center down the road but needs to work on his skating. He works hard, plays physical, and could be a great investment.
Two additional seasons with the Colts, however, have done wonders for him. His skating has continued to improve, he's leaned into his physical abilities, and after a monstrous regular and postseason, has developed into a menace of a center that has potential to be more of a second line center than a third. Part of me wonders if he has the fixings of becoming a bit of a (more defensive) J.T. Miller, Jr.

Right off the bat, there were only 12 games during the regular season in which Beaudoin did not register a point. In 29 of the remaining 42 games of the season, he had multi-point nights, including seven three-point outings, four four-point nights, and one five-point game. He wasted no time being a top contributor for the Colts this season as he finished game one of the season with an assist and a pair of goals in a 5-3 win over the Oshawa Generals.
Beaudoin opened the season picking up the secondary assist on co-captain Kaishawn Aitcheson's first goal of the season. Toward the end of the first after taking a hit in the slot, Beaudoin got right back up and held his own at the net front, where he would eventually fire a quick shot home to extend his teams lead. Later that night, he would pick up his second goal on a similar play, as there's never any hesitation from Beaudoin to park himself in front of the net. A three point night to start the season as Beaudoin would go on a four game point streak (nine points in four games) to open the 2025-26 campaign.
