Podcast Ombudsman Report for Blueshirt Bandwidth Ep. 105
Chip missed a few names on Chris Drury’s waiver losses, a goalie riddle has an answer, and a fast-food question finally gets settled. Time to set the record straight.
Welcome back to the Blueshirt Bandwidth Podcast Ombudsman Report. Each week, Charlie Vidal will listen to the latest episode of the podcast and correct the record on anything Joe and Eric (or, in this case, Joe and Chip) get wrong. If you aren't already, you can listen and subscribe to the podcast here.
Potato Wedges
During the opening question-inspired discussion of French fries, Joe asked, "What fast-food chain had potato wedges?"
For years, KFC was the only major fast-food chain to offer potato wedges. They were discontinued in 2020 and replaced by French fries, then brought back in select markets in 2025.
Waivers
During this week's scintillating discussion of waivers, Chip erroneously said that New York Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury had lost only Ty Emberson and William Trudeau on waivers. Ignoring the intentional loss of Barclay Goodrow, the Rangers have also lost Mason Geertsen (2021 preseason), Jarred Tinordi (2022 preseason), and Dryden Hunt (October 2022).
Continuing this week's waivers episode, Joe and Chip asked whether sitting on the bench without entering a game counts toward a goalie losing waiver exemption status. The rule says that a player who has previously cleared waivers to be sent down to the AHL does not have to reclear waivers to be sent back down within 10 NHL games or 30 days on the roster, whichever comes first. Being the backup goalie and not entering a game does not count toward those 10 games played.
Of course, this discussion was made moot over the weekend.
Hat Trick
Chip and Joe asked when the Rangers had scored a hat trick on the back of two empty-net goals. The only other instance in Rangers history was on Dec. 1, 2017, when Michael Grabner did it against the Carolina Hurricanes:
Across the NHL, this is a rare but not unprecedented occurrence. Last season, Viktor Arvidsson pulled off the trick against the Dallas Stars:
