Welcome back to the Blueshirt Bandwidth Podcast Ombudsman Report. Each week, Charlie Vidal will listen to the latest episode of the podcast and correct the record on anything Joe and Eric get wrong. If you aren't already, you can listen and subscribe to the podcast here.

Man of the Cross

Joe called himself a man of the cross. If Joe is a man of the cross then, why did he get John 3:17 so wrong as noted in the Ep. 69 Ombudsman Report?

Sherrone Moore

While discussing the Tony Clark situation, Sherrone Moore, the now former head coach of University of Michigan football was brought up. Moore was dismissed due to affair with a staffer and ultimately was arrested when he broke into her home to confront her.

The staffer who allegedly was involved in the affair had her salary jump from $58,000 in 2023 to $99,000 in 2025, per Fox News.

Guys Running NHLPA

While Tony Clark is certainly leaving his post at the head of the MLBPA for inauspicious reasons, the NHLPA has had plenty of executive directors leave under inauspicious circumstances, as well:

  • Alan Eagleson (1967-1991): Forced out for embezzling from the pension fund and taking kickbacks from owners in exchange for keeping player salaries down; was sentenced to 18 months in prison in Canada.
  • Bob Goodenow (1992-2005): Forced out after he lead the NHLPA into utter defeat and cancellation of the entire 2004-05 season.
  • Ted Saskin (2005-2007): Forced out after it surfaced that he accessed player email accounts.

Filip Chytil Episode

This was the Filip Chytil episode. Unfortunately, since this podcast was recorded Filip Chytil has suffered another head injury. He was hit in the head with a puck in practice and fractured a facial bone:

11-Year-Old Understanding

When discussing the 11 year old who came to an agreement with the Philadelphia Phillies, Joe pondered, “Does he even fundamentally understand what he’s agreeing to?” There is absolutely no way that an 11 year old in the Dominican Republican understands what Philly fans are about.

Noting how young he is, Eric commented that he’s “part of the 2031 international class…I don’t want to think about baseball in 2031”

Based on MLB’s current labor tensions, MLB owners don’t want to think about baseball in 2031, either.

As a side note, in 2031 a 43-year-old Brad Marchand will be an unrestricted free agent.

Paul Brothers NFT

In August 2021, Logan Paul bought an NFT from the 0N1 Force NFT collection for approximately $623,000 worth of Ether. As of last week, similar NFTs from the collection are selling for a little under $2,000, which would represent a 99.6% drop in value:

Charlie Fighting Joe

“Are you trying to fight me, Charlie?” – Joe Fortunato

In case the children are nervous that daddy and Uncle Charlie are going to fight, you can rest assured that we have reconciled over our mutual love of roasting Eric on X:

Racine Plumbing

Once again Eric mentioned Racine Plumbing, the New York sports bar in Chicago where Eric and I watched the 2014 and 2015 playoff runs. Although it is now closed, it was once my favorite bar in the world.

Matthew Tkachuk Chirp

Matthew Tkachuk taunted Leon Draisaitl following Team USA’s 5-1 win over Germany in the group stage, saying to him, “Always a bridesmaid, never a bride."

Unfortunately, we are unable to link to a video because we don’t want to have the IOC launch a drone strike against the Banter offices at 2 Penn Plaza, New York, N.Y.

First Overall Picks

Joe asked, “Could it be more depressing to watch the first overall picks dominate the Olympics.” The following first overall picks featured in the Olympics:

  • 2024: Macklin Celebrini (10 points)
  • 2022: Juraj Slafkovsky (8 points)
  • 2019: Jack Hughes (7 points)
  • 2018: Rasmus Dahlin (5 points)
  • 2017: Nico Hischier (4 points)
  • 2016: Auston Matthews (7 points)
  • 2015: Connor McDavid (13 points)
  • 2013: Nathan Mackinnon (7 points)
  • 2005: Sidney Crosby (6 points)

(Note: Jack Hughes didn’t even lead his own family in scoring.)

Rangers NMCs

It was mentioned that after The Letter 2.0 (or, The Letter 2: Drury Bogaloo) went out, the team approached those with no-movement clauses asking if they want out. Five Rangers have full NMCs:

  • Mika Zibanejad (becomes a modified no trade clause during the 2029 offseason)
  • J.T. Miller (becomes 15 team no-trade list during the 2027 offseason)
  • Adam Fox (becomes a 16 team no-trade list during the 2027 offseason)
  • Vladislav Gavrikov
  • Igor Shesterkin

Fast Food

Joe and Eric discussed fast food in light of Wendy’s declaration that 2026 will be a “rebuilding year:”

Joe went on to say that he rarely visits Wendy’s anymore, now that “McDonalds went to always fresh.” The Quarter Pounder is the only burger that is made using fresh beef. Everything else (Big Mac, Double Cheeseburger, McDouble, etc.) is made using frozen beef.

As far as Wendy’s goes, I have to add that their breakfast potato wedges are french fries for breakfast.

Panthers Pick

Eric said that the Florida Panthers could not offer up their first round pick for Artemi Panarin because “the Chicago Blackhawks have the Panthers first round pick.” Almost one year after the trade, Frank Seravelli finally publicly reported for the first time that the pick is top 10 protected:
