Rangers News: Rangers Acquire Todd White in Trade with Thrashers (UPDATE)

UPDATE BY Joe Fortunato: Word from multiple beats is that the Rangers gave back Donald Brashear and Pat Rissmiller to the Thrashers. That is a hell of a move guys, especially since it takes Brashear’s contract off the cap. Back to Nick …

Yes it is 1:00 a.m. in the morning here in the East Coast and yes the Rangers have announced a trade this late, or shall I say this early? Michael Russo is reporting via Twitter that the New York Rangers have acquired 35-year-old center Todd White from the Atlanta Thrashers. It has not yet been unveiled what the Blueshirts have sent to Atlanta, but I will have that for you hopefully as soon as it becomes available. I highly doubt that GM Glen Sather gave up much for him anyway.

White had a below average year last season with Atlanta, only playing in 65 games and recording 7 goals and 19 assists for 26 points. This is what leads me to believe that New York may have gotten him at a bargain price, but again, those details have not been reported just yet. Regardless, White has some talent that could be put to use on Broadway. In 2008-09, Todd played in all 82 games with the Thrashers and notched 22 goals and 73 points, which are some impressive numbers for someone his age.

The Rangers are lacking in the secondary scoring department, even with Alex Frolov, but I believe White can help to improve that as long as he stays healthy. This is an interesting move to say the least and that is without even knowing what the Rangers had to give up. This makes the squad, in my opinion, a little more dangerous offensively as they will now have scoring from multiple sources.

Also worth mentioning, White has a cap hit worth $2.35 million. This must be signifying the end of Wade Redden, no?

This is all we know for now, but as I said, we will look to get the second half of the trade to you as soon as possible.
