Rangers News: Sounds like Marian Gaborik is healthy, and ready to go
Andrew Gross over at Ranger Rants was able to talk to Marian Gaborik at the MSG Practice Facility, and here is some of what Gabby had to say:
On skating so far with his new teammates: "I'm settling in, getting used to the guys, finding a place to live. The guys are great, everybody's helpful, like Dru (Chris Drury). It's a lot of good guys so far. It'll be a fun ride, hopefully. It's my second team in the NHL and I'm looking forward to the opportunity. It's a different vibe than Minnesota. I was in Minnesota for nine years and I had a great time there but now I've turned the page. I'm looking forward to New York and trying to play and help the team."
On meeting with John Tortorella: "We've talked briefly, he's been working out in the gym. We've exchanged a few words. I'm sure there will be time for that."
On his ex-coach, Jacques Lemaire, taking the Devils job: "I'll see him six times. Good for him. Obviously he enjoys coaching. It'll be different, obviously. It'll be interesting. He knows me very well. It'll be interesting.
Also, on Rangers.com, our friend Jim Cerny also spoke to Gaborik, and here are some highlights from that story: (full story here)
"It’s a new challenge and a new opportunity, and I am looking forward to it," said Gaborik after taking part in an informal skate with his new teammates on Tuesday morning at the MSG Training Center.
When it was the Rangers who were able to land the Czech sniper, Gaborik instantly became excited about the prospect of playing under the bright lights of Broadway.
"I am looking forward to being in New York, but for me hockey comes first," said Gaborik, who is the Wild’s all-time leader in goals (219), assists (218), and points (437). "I just want to play and help the team win. That’s all."
"He seems like an offensive-minded coach," Gaborik, 27, said of Tortorella. "Obviously, though, we have to take care of things defensively. But I don’t have a problem with that since I played in Minnesota for nine years.
Like the tweet I got from @brutban yesterday said:
I can hear the Garden chants in the distance.... "Lets go Rangers", Lets go Rangers!"
One more month to go until Opening Night.
