Rangers Place J.T. Miller on Injured Reserve
From a gold medal in Milan, to crowd surfing in Miami, to IR in New York, J.T. Miller has had a whirlwind of a week and a half.
Some New York Rangers fans were expecting to see J.T. Miller go on IR immediately following the end of the 2026 Milan Olympics. Nine days and three games later, the Rangers are officially making that move.
The Rangers have put J.T. Miller on injured reserve, per the NHL Media site.

While Miller has dealt with injuries throughout the entire season, it appears that this injury is unrelated to his previous injuries. It is however, being labeled an upper-body injury.
The Rangers are placing captain JT Miller on injured reserve with an upper body injury. Told it’s a new injury, not related to what he’s been dealing with earlier this season.

Regardless of whether the injuries are related or not, it's not an encouraging sign to have your captain—who is supposed to be a top player on this team—continue to be held back by injuries. Miller is 32 years old and is under contract with plenty of trade protection through the 2029-30 season.
As pointed out by Jonny Lazarus of Daily Faceoff, there was a net front battle last night where Miller was taken down to the ice hard and may have gotten hit with a puck on the way down.
As Jonny alluded to, this may be where J.T. Miller was injured last night against Columbus. #NYR https://t.co/VIps7JQ09Z pic.twitter.com/3YdyQNeX44

At the time of writing, the Rangers have not made any corresponding roster moves. They do have Adam Edstrom who has been cleared to return as an option as well as Jonny Brodzinski. The Rangers could also opt to go 11 forwards and seven defensemen in order to get Scott Morrow back into play.
The Rangers will host the Toronto Maple Leafs at Madison Square Garden Thursday night.
