Rangers Place Matt Rempe Back on Injured Reserve
The New York Rangers will again be without Matt Rempe as he continues to recover from an injured thumb suffered earlier in the season.
With the Rangers returning to action in less than a week, more updates on their current roster situation are starting to come out. One of which includes an update on Matt Rempe who has not been the same since returning from his extended stay on LTIR. Turns out, Rempe will go back on the IR as he will have a procedure done to try and properly fix his lingering thumb injury.
Matt Rempe is going on IR, per source. He's getting a procedure related to his persistent thumb injury stemming from the Ryan Reaves fight.

In just 26 games played this season, Rempe has just one goal and eleven penalty minutes to show for. However, five of those penalty minutes continue to hold him down as his fight with Ryan Reaves earlier this season, has clearly had a negative impact on his season.
At the moment, it isn't clear whether this will be a season ending situation but it certainly doesn't sound promising as Vince Mercogliano of The Athletic mentioned he spoke to Rempe earlier this week about seeing specialists and preparing for rehab work over the summer.
Rempe and I were chatting earlier this week and he expressed how frustrating the injury has been. He’s seen multiple specialists and just can’t seem to get that thumb right. Sounded like he was bracing for a lot of rehab work this summer but hope is this procedure will help. #NYR https://t.co/wUCoBb0Jp6

Given how the Rangers season has gone, he would be wise to wait it out and focus on making a full recovery for next season.
According to Peter Baugh, also of The Athletic, he hasn't officially been ruled out for the season.
The team will evaluate Rempe's injury as he recovers. He hasn't been ruled out for the season.

Incredibly unfortunate for a rather meaningless fight to have derailed Rempe's season so significantly as he was looking like a strong NHL fourth liner at the start of the season. This also leads to more questions about how the Rangers as an organization handle injuries. You can't help but wonder why they continue to prolong more lasting solutions when their players are being nagged by lingering injuries, especially in another lost season.
The Rangers return to action Thursday night as they'll host the Philadelphia Flyers.
