In what has become quite the news day for the New York Rangers, defenseman Connor Mackey has been recalled and will join the team to serve at their extra defenseman this weekend.

Carson Soucy was skating as the extra during the team's practice this morning and while the initial speculation suggested a trade could be coming, it was later reported that Soucy will not be traveling with the team for personal reasons.

Here is how the rest of the lineup panned out for the Rangers at today's skate.

In 32 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack this season, Mackey has a total of seven points with two goals and five assists. In his last ten games, Mackey has a goal and an assist but has been held pointless in his last eight. Throughout this stretch, he has collected 32 penalty minutes with 14 of which coming in the team's 5-1 win over the Providence Bruins. Mackey also had a fight the following night in their 5-1 loss to the Bridgeport Islanders.

As mentioned, Mackey will likely serve as the extra defenseman but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he ended up playing in Philadelphia Saturday Afternoon, especially with it being the first game post The Letter 2.0 with a team desperate for tenacity.
