Rangers Rewind: Kreider’s set play is the Rangers goal of the week

We’re going to try something new at Blueshirt Banter where we put a spotlight on the New York Rangers best goal of the week.
We’re starting this off with a ridiculous power play goal from the Rangers 6-3 win over the Devils on Thursday. The play in question, of course, was the Hail Mary set play executed by defenseman Tony DeAngelo and Chris Kreider. Oh, and Mika Zibanejad earned a secondary assist because he got the puck to DeAngelo. But let’s be real. This play was all about DeAngelo’s vision and Kreider’s nasty, angry speed.

We have seen the Rangers send pucks in deep so that Kreider can win it back in a foot race against sluggish and unsuspecting defenders for years, but this was something on a completely different level. DeAngelo rifled the puck from the faceoff dot in his own zone diagonally through the neutral zone and off of the end boards to set up a streaking Kreider, who deftly tucked the puck past Devils’ goalie MacKenzie Blackwood. It was a thing of beauty.
The goal was Kreider’s 14th of the season and DeAngelo’s third point of the first period against the Devils. Needless to say, it will be a tough act to follow.
