Rangers vs. Sharks: Scoring at MSG Isn't Enough

For the first time all year, the Rangers scored plenty of goals at home. Yet it still wasn't enough for a win.

  • We've had back-to-back games with goals in the first two minutes at Madison Square Garden, except this time it was Adam Gaudette for the San Jose Sharks. Right from the start, the Sharks dominated possession in the Rangers' zone and were relentless, which led to the opening goal.
  • Matt Rempe and former Ranger Ryan Reaves dropped the gloves about six minutes into the game. The fight was initiated after Reaves threw a hit on Juuso Parssinen. Rempe went to the dressing room after and was unable to return with an upper-body injury. Rempe has been making an impact on the ice, and getting baited into a fight may cost him big time.
  • A two-on-one led to a penalty against Adam Fox, and the Sharks wasted no time on the man advantage. Former first overall pick Macklin Celebrini was able to get the puck to take a lucky bounce, and it landed in the back of the net. That kind of lucky bounce is something you would only see happen to the Rangers.
  • Right as it seemed the Blueshirts were starting to find their game, a poor clear in the defensive zone led to Celebrini's second goal of the night. While it seemed the team had started to eliminate these defensive zone mistakes, they seem to be creeping back.
