Sam Carrick Traded to Sabres For Third and Sixth Round Draft Picks
It's time to say goodbye to a fan favorite as Sam Carrick is reportedly heading north after being acquired from the Buffalo Sabres.
Forwards Sam Carrick and Vincent Trocheck were held out against the Toronto Maple Leafs for roster management reasons last night, and now Carrick is on the move. Carrick has been dealt to the Buffalo Sabres, who are currently in second place in the Atlantic Division. Carrick originally signed a three-year contract with the New York Rangers ahead of the 2024-25 season but will now play the remainder of that deal with the Sabres.
According to Peter Baugh of The Athletic, the return is a pair of draft picks both in 2026. One third round and one sixth round selection. The trade was officially announced as of 8:00 a.m. this morning (March 6)
The #NYR have acquired a 3rd-round pick and a 6th-round pick (via CHI) from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for forward Sam Carrick.

The 34-year-old center primarily served on the fourth line during his time with the Rangers. Throughout those 140 games, Carrick racked up 10 goals and 20 assists. During his time in New York City, Carrick became a fan favorite for his gritty playstyle and tenacity regardless of the score. This was evident in the seven fights he's taken part in over the last season and a half.
He currently carries a cap hit of $1 million, which left the Blueshirts with the option to retain part of. Judging by the return that Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff also reported, it appears that may not be the case.

To #Sabrehood:
Sam Carrick
To #NYR:
2026 BUF 3rd Round Pick
2026 CHI 6th Round Pick
Carrick will provide playoff experience for the Sabres' bottom-six as they are expected to go to the playoffs for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
With Friday's 3:00 pm trade deadline nearing, it is unlikely that Carrick is the last player general manager Chris Drury trades. As mentioned. Vincent Trocheck was also held out and could be traded as well. As the trade deadline unfolds, Blueshirt Banter has you covered with live updates.
