The New York Rangers have named Gord Murphy as an associate coach of the Hartford Wolf Pack on Kris Knoblauch’s coaching staff.

Murphy, 52, was last behind the bench of the Philadelphia Flyers as an assistant coach. According to Behind the Benches, he worked with Philadelphia’s defense from 2014 to 2018, under Craig Berube in 2014-15 and Dave Hakstol through the rest of his tenure. There, from 2017 to 2018, he worked with then-Flyers’ assistant coach Knoblauch, who was responsible for the power play. Murphy was fired from the Flyers in November 2018, just weeks before head coach Hakstol was.

Before Philadelphia, Murphy was an assistant coach with the Florida Panthers and Columbus Blue Jackets. Along with defensive responsibilities, he also has experience coaching the penalty kill from his time in Florida and Columbus. In addition to time behind NHL benches, he was an assistant coach for Team Canada’s U18 team in 2013-14.
