Amid all the talks of returning to play and the CBA extension comes a bit of local breaking news, courtesy of former Rangers and New Jersey Devils goalie and now broadcaster for NHL Network, Kevin Weekes.

A few minutes later, Darren Dreger confirmed Weekes’s report.

Ruff was hired by the Rangers back in 2017 and has served as an assistant coach for the Blueshirts, mainly in charge of the team’s defensive play and penalty kill. The last time Ruff was the main man behind the bench was 2016-17 when he finished his tenure with the Dallas Stars.

This move for Ruff is slated to have a major impact on the Rangers as they are now in the market for a new assistant coach for a defense that was in desperate need of an overhaul.
